Book Cover Design, Event Branding
Sisonke is a conceptual South African colloquial dictionary project created to educate and engage the public through the exploration of local language, slang and cultural expression. The project focuses on documenting commonly used South African slang and everyday language, making it accessible to a broader audience while celebrating the diversity of local communication. The visual identity and book cover design use an expressive illustration collage featuring people from different backgrounds sharing and communicating familiar South African slang. This editorial design and illustration approach reflects the richness of South African culture and creates a visually engaging representation of local language. The project combines graphic design, typography, illustration and cultural storytelling to capture the character of South African colloquial language while promoting cultural diversity, inclusion and language awareness.
